Starting TaskClerk

TaskClerk can be started in a number of ways, some people like to know what and when applications start on their computer so for this group you can start TaskClerk from the Windows Start button. Start/Programs/TaskClerk and then click on the TaskClerk icon.




If during the install of TaskClerk you opted to have TaskClerk start when your computer starts, then there will be a new icon (TaskClerk PieTime) in the notify area of your computer. You can access all the TaskClerk features from this icon by right clicking on the icon and selecting one of the menu items.




If you did not select the auto start option during instillation then you can use the desktop icon installed on your desktop. If you want to remove the desktop item then drag it to the Recycle Bin – this will not delete TaskClerk only the desktop icon.

Options Dialog

The options dialog provides the user with access to the TaskClerk configuration settings. This dialog contains a list of categories on the left and the configuration on the right. Click through the option categories like General, Start and Stop and Backup and Restore and look at the configuration settings you can change. It is advisable to start and stop TaskClerk after you have made changes to any configurations. The "Show advanced settings" adds to the advanced configuration categories to the left hand list.

General Configuration

• Your name is used to personalise the TaskClerk and the printed of reports.
• Your email address is currently used by the iCal exporter (a required field).
• the user interface culture is used by TaskClerk to display the date and times in your local culture.
• TaskClerk can be set to auto start each time windows starts.
• The default web page is visible when you click on the root node of the navigation tree in the main window. This url could be your company web site or a project workspace.

Start and Stop

TaskClerk can perform actions during the startup and shut down phases of the application

• The startup phase can start both and event and an activity eg: you could start your computer and go and collect the post, if you did this every day you could program TaskClerk to record this behavior by setting an event of "Start of Day" and an activity of "Collect the post". when you have completed your collect the post activity you could start another task.
• The shutdown activity allows you to have the "End of day" event triggered when you shutdown your machine at the end of the day.
• The suspend activity is targeted at users who suspend their machines during the day - in most cases they want a "Meeting" activity started.
• The working hours configuration is designed to assist TaskClerk understand your working day and core hours.

Backup and Restore

The backup and restore configuration is designed to assist users backup and restore data, TaskClerk can auto backup your data during the application startup and you can determine how often you what the backup to be triggered.

The restore feature replaces the data in your current working database with the data it finds in the backup location. Your settings file is also replaced. It is advisable you start and stop TaskClerk after this procedure.

Status balloon

The status balloon provides you with information about the currently running task.

Nag balloon

The nag balloon will be displayed each time you go over the allocated nag time. You can manage the allocated nag time for each TaskDescription by opening the TaskDescription Explorer



and changing the Nag setting for any Activity Task.
